Visual Art has historically had a complex relationship with spirituality, both used as an essential form of honoring the divine, and villainized as an act of sacrilege. Artistic depictions of scenes from religious history are now largely embraced, but within many of the Eastern Traditions, visual art continues to be a form of literally channeling the energy of the divine into a space, image, or object.
This series will explore perspectives from the Yogic traditions used to invoke divine consciousness, including the use of Yantra (sacred symbols that hold the energy of specific Devis), Sacred Geometry (shapes or mandalas that represent forms of energy or elements), and symbol (animals, spiritual tools, and elements of nature associated with the Chakras and Devis). Each week a specific type of sacred visual expression will be explored through lecture and guided meditation, and then participants will be invited to respond creatively by developing their own personal representations related to one's interests.
Creative interpretations may include personal symbols for manifestation, Sigils or geometric shapes imbued with energy, or complex visual depictions created through the duration of the course. Participants will be invited to share their creations, questions, and inspirations through group discussion.
Mikella Millen, LCAT, ATR-BC is a licensed Art Psychotherapist, Reiki Master Teacher, Yoga Nidra Teacher, and Tantric Meditation Teacher.
