The creation of tarot and oracle decks has long been integrated into magickal and esoteric practice, functioning both as a form of personal expression and as a tool for engaging with symbolic knowledge. Historically, practitioners from Renaissance Italy to occult circles in the twentieth century have made their own decks, viewing the process as a means to connect with established archetypes and structured systems of meaning. Constructing a deck involves the translation of private insights and collective symbolism into material form, whether through drawing, collage, text, or found objects. This process is not dependent on artistic skill; rather, it hinges on deliberate selection and interpretation of symbolic imagery.
This workshop—led by visionary artist and tarot reader Dannielle Tegeder—will guide participants though the act of making their own tarot or oracle deck, drawing on both historical precedent and contemporary approaches to creative, spiritual practice. Learn accessible ways of making. deck using writing, words, collage, sound and more! Activities include guided meditation and discussion to facilitate direct engagement with archetypal themes and symbolic relationships. Instead of memorizing prescribed meanings, participants are encouraged to develop their own interpretive strategies and connections to the cards. The resulting decks may consist of original drawings, collage, photography, or other media, depending on individual preference. The central emphasis is on intentional engagement with the symbols and ideas that underpin divinatory systems, situating creative practice within a broader cultural and historical framework.
