PLEASE NOTE: Classes will be recorded and archived for students who cannot make that time
Life and death intermingle in liminal space, sometimes shadowed and subtle, sometimes shockingly evident, or somewhere in between. In this class we will explore those liminal spaces, where one foot stands on either side of the threshold between life and death, from a shamanic perspective.
In this course, shamanic practitioner and death midwife Lisa Cox will guide participants in exploring shamanic practices that transcend ordinary reality, offering insight into the space where death meets life, as we know it. Through illustrated talks, weekly shamanic journeys, and optional readings, we will trace the historical and methodological aspects of shamanism that allow the stepping into and across these transitional thresholds.
Our work together will center on experiencing new ways of being and perceiving. Participants will acquire practical shamanic tools for everyday use, learning how to connect with non-ordinary reality and commune with compassionate spirits and teachers to gain knowledge and wisdom about the liminal space between life and death. These skills support personal discovery and empowerment.
Shamanism serves as a divinatory and healing practice, helping us seek answers and resources that we can integrate into our daily lives and communal relationships. By weaving together ancient wisdom and modern experience, we open new possibilities for personal renewal and collective well-being.
No prior shamanic experience is necessary, but this is a highly participatory class experience, so all participants are asked to bring a sense of openness, curiosity and willingness to engage.
Students will be requested to bring an eye cover (such as a bandana or scarf) and a journal and writing utensils.
Lisa Cox grew up in Maine and lived all over northern New England before migrating to Wyoming in 2003. With degrees in history, education, public administration and soil science, she has spent much of her adult life teaching, researching and writing. Several years ago Lisa embarked on advanced formal training in Core Shamanism, followed this with Death Midwife training and opened her own small practice providing shamanic healing and end of life care- and beyond. When not providing exceptional physical, emotional and spiritual care to beings of all sorts, she likely can be found reading, cooking for community, hiking or sitting on a lake in her kayak.
