There are places where women gather, not to be taught what is sacred, but to remember that they already are. And there are voices that rise not from doctrine, but from the body, the dream, the threshold between worlds.
This course—drawing on mythology, depth psychology, feminist theology, and lived ritual practice—brings these two movements together in an exploration of how women can reclaim spiritual authority through communal ritual and prophetic voice. Over six weeks, we will examine contemporary women’s circles as spaces of embodied transformation, where ritual, movement, storytelling, and shared presence become forms of lived spirituality. Alongside this, we will trace the archetypal lineage of the female seer—the Oracle, the Witch, and the Mystic—figures who have long mediated between worlds, often at great personal cost.
Together, these threads lead us to ask: What does it mean for a woman not only to gather in sacred space, but to speak from it? Through lecture, discussion, and optional ritual and somatic practices, we will explore how voice, body, and community intersect as sites of power, healing, and transformation. More than a course of study, this class is an invitation to reconnect with our own inner voice and wisdom.
Selena Madden, Ph.D., is a mythologist, educator, and somatic practitioner whose work bridges mythology, depth psychology, and embodied ritual. She integrates academic scholarship with practices such as bellydance, martial arts, and Nia (White Belt certified), guiding students into a lived, experiential relationship with myth.
