In this short ritual workshop session, join mythologist Alicia King Anderson to celebrate and explore harvest myths in honor of the Autumn Equinox.

In the spring, we celebrated the return of Persephone from the Underworld. Her story, and her return to the kingdom where she reigns as Queen is one of many we will discuss in this workshop.

We will be exploring other figures like her – who go to and return from the underworld, specifically those that are considered to be Harvest and grain deities like Persephone. We will discuss the myth of Inanna, and the journey of her consort, Dumuzi to the realms of Ereshkigal. And we will unpack the folk horror archetype of the “rex nemorensis” – or the Harvest king who is often ritually sacrificed to ensure fruitful crops.

Alicia King Anderson has a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology. She is a mythologist and coach based in New Mexico. She enjoys teaching ritual theory, ritual design, and offering ways to communicate with the unconscious. She recently published a book, Burnout Recovery through North Atlantic Books.
