Antique Mexican Retablo on Tin, 19th century Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Mater Dolorosa, Our Lady of Sorrows. Beautifully painted in oil on tin she glows in subtle earth tones, she is adorned in blue robes. While holding an expression of peace on her face around her eyes is a combination of sadness and love. Her hands clasp at her heart while the sword that pierces only deepens her expression. Three nails lay at the ready.
Although there is some loss of paint around the bottom edge and right corner this is a beautifully aged and lovely example of Mexican Retablo painting.
