The Witch of the Mountain: Handmade, One-of-a-kind Mask by French Artist Candice Angelini

$850.00

I myself have seen this woman draw the stars from the sky, she diverts the course of a fast-flowing river with her incantations, her voice makes the earth gape, it lures the spirits from the tombs, send the bones tumbling from dying pyre. At her behest, the sad clouds scatter, at her behest, snow falls from a summer’s sky. —TIBULUS

This mask is part of the “Dying for Gods” series by Candice Angelini and was created in 2019. This particular mask is made out of paper, ink, wax and beads.

Candice Angelini is a self-taught artist whose work revolves around the threshold between life to death and the idea of memorialization. Her fascination for 19th century France makes her believe she’s stuck in time, between her own era and the past. A believer in past lives, Angelini creates masks that evokes her relationship to former lives and identities contained within her. Each of her sculptures, made of paper, antique materials and often real human hair or teeth are unique, and channels a bit of the past souls it once was attached to.

Product dimensions: 7.5 x 6.3 inches
