Sheela of Order, Handmade by Artist Wendy Fitch

$144.00

Sheela Na Gigs are ancient hag goddesses seen on medieval churches in Ireland and England. Depicted as naked women displaying their vulvas, many believe they were apotropaic figures meant to protect against death, evil and the demonic.

In the artist’s own words, “I make them for protection, to resist the patriarchal structures that oppress women and nonbinary people, and to honor the cycle of death and rebirth, which she represents among other things.“

This Sheela was ritually made with the energies of Saturn, for order, responsibility, and reward from sacrifice and hard work.

This hand-made piece is made with polymer clay, wood, acrylic paint, obsidian, and magnesite.

It measures 9 inches x 12 inches x .75 inch

Please note: Shipping fee includes packaging and handling costs.

Processing time is 3-5 business days.

Wendy is a multimedia artist and eclectic witch living in Austin, TX. She grew up in the Washington, DC area where she was exposed to art and spiritual traditions from all over the world. Her art and practices are influenced by this upbringing as well as her own Scandinavian and Scotch-Irish heritage, her lifelong love of nature and space, the language of symbols, and an anarcho-primitivish belief system. She runs a business called Fendywitch Designs and sells art, jewelry, hand-printed clothing, and more at markets, shops, and galleries all over the US.
