Cephalophore, Original Oil Painting by Artist Maria Pia Mosquera

$1,800.00

Under robe and hood, tormented by his captors, the penitent lost his head to quench their thirst…

This original oil painting by Colombian-born artist Maria Pia Mosquera is drawn from the series The Penitents, which gives us a glimpse into a surreal and absurd dream, a place where the modern world and folklore intertwine, and the boundary between life and death is blurred.

Approx. 18 inches by 24 inches tall
Oil on board
Cradle mount frame

PLEASE NOTE: This piece ships from Australia. It can take up to three weeks to arrive and be subject to customs fees.

Maria Pia Mosquera (b. 1977) is a Colombian-born artist and designer, based in Sydney, Australia. Her current work explores our ambiguous relationship with death through imagery that challenges the macabre with wry humour, using the pervasive religious symbolism of Hispanic culture to bring the otherworldly into the everyday. Her work is held in various private collections in Australia and overseas.
