Free Online Talk · Surviving and Thriving: How To Be More First Girl, with Dr Eleanor Reynolds and Dr Marybec Griffin

The first girl to be murdered in a slasher movie is often dismissed by viewers as a pretty airhead whose sole purpose in the film is to run around in her underwear screaming. In reality, her death is the most crucial scene in the film, setting in motion a series of events that lead her counterpart, the final girl, to vanquish the killer. Without her death, there would be no story! Whilst the final girl survives the movie, she must live with the trauma of the killer's rampage, forever looking over her shoulder in the sequels. This illustrated talk will explore the first girl who is the only character who does not know that she is in a horror film and, consequently, lives life to the full.
