The Winter Solstice is a turning of tides—a cosmic solar return—a time for ritual and reflection. An opportunity to move slowly and to contemplate what has passed, what we can release, and what we wish to invoke in the year to come. As a creative community, we'll take part in the ancient tradition of honoring the year’s darkest day and welcoming the rising light.

Part generative writing, part guided ritual, this workshop offers prompts designed to stir introspection and honor the natural cycle of life and death. We’ll write individually, celebrate communally, and close the hour with firelight in a welcoming and inclusive space.

WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES
During our time together, we’ll bring intention and ceremony to three generative writing prompts. The first honors darkness and culmination: life’s labors that reach an end; the second encourages participants to release grief, loss, and what no longer serves; and the third invokes the light of the oncoming year and future intentions and vision.

Attendees will come away feeling centered and inspired.

No prep needed. If it’s available to you, I encourage bringing paper and pen to write by hand— and a candle so that we can all be surrounded by light during and at the end of our ritual.

Your guide on this journey is literary artist, editor, and educator Gabriela Denise Frank, a friend of Morbid Anatomy who hails from the Pacific Northwest. Trained in visual design, music, religious studies, and writing, Gabriela infuses her creative practice with ritual and experimentation. In returning for this special workshop, she is excited to unite writing, ceremony, and reflection during a season that encourages us all to go bold and deeply inside.
