The Seven Deadly Sins: An Intentional Journey of Creative Self Discovery Through Art Making and Storytelling with Artist Teté Montero, Beginning February 27

This course, led by Mexico City based artist and educator Teté Montero, will invite you to explore the depths of you inner self through the lens of the seven deadly sins: Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth and Wrath. Described as the most unfathomable obscure vices of humans, these seven cardinal sins encompass the most maligned aspects of the human experience. Deeply interconnected with ethical and philosophical debates such as the problem of evil, the existence of God and Heaven, and true contrition, these concepts have impacted religion, art and Western thought for millennia. A variety of artists—including Hieronymus Bosch, William Blake, Salvador Dalí, Nan Goldin, Remedios Varo and Margaret Atwood—have explored the seven deadly sins in their work, often as a means of investigating the darkest and most enigmatic aspects of human nature, ethics and morality.
Each class session will focus on a single sin, using it as a catalyst for self-reflection, inspiration and creative expression. Through illustrated lectures, mindful shadow work, guided discussions, journaling exercises, storytelling prompts and various art making techniques, you will be invited to take an inner look into the mysterious complexities of human nature. By working with the archaic yet provocative idea of the seven deadly sins, we will learn more about ourselves and work towards transforming new understandings into engaging personal art. The class will encourage personal growth and artistic development in a guided, supportive, fun and dynamic environment.
Teté Montero is a Mexican artist and educator, storyteller, death doula, unicorn enchantress, and weaver, by choice. She's neurodivergent by neurology, and a self appointed renaissance woman. She apprenticed under the care of master weaver Kenzo Jo in Saori Art Weaving in Japan. In addition, she has diverse focus studies from the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, The Hospice Association, Upaya Zen Center, and the Authentic Presence Organization. Originally focused in clinical medical studies and contemplative end of life care, with a latter shift into her lifelong special interests; medieval studies, socially engaged Buddhism, fine arts, and art history. She has found her true calling via education and inspiring artists through their creative paths. She currently runs an art teaching studio in Mexico City with the ghost of her dog Kayi. She is also a practicing Buddhist.
