Collage albums are lovely hand crafted Victorian books created with the objective of pure visual creative delight. With only creativity in mind, these (often anonymous) makers filled pages with carefully hand cut, painted and glued figures, composing personalized and often surrealistic compositions. The finishing touch was often the addition of other objects to beautify the book, including lace, ribbon, fabric, wallpaper, newspaper cutouts and photography.

In this 4 session class, we will explore the history of the slower, simpler life of the Victorian era and how they amuse themselves with games, craft activities and the creation of handmade items. We will also focus on the aesthetics of the art of paper and ephemera, including cards, puzzle games, and elaborate Victorian scrapbooks to inspire us in the creation of our own handmade collage album inspired piece.

Each sessions will include an illustrated lecture, grounding mindful art exercises, journaling and scrapbooking prompts perspectives, sharing, and diverse art prompts. We will also engage in art activities and suggestions for delving into the victorian lifestyle as an active, inspiring, individual exploration for art making.
