In the first iteration of this class, scholar and practitioner Selena Madden, PhD, introduced students to the essentials of European witchcraft and modern Paganism through hands-on ritual work and foundational magickal practices. Students gained the tools, knowledge, and confidence necessary to create and perform personal rituals, fostering meaningful and transformative spiritual growth.
This follow-up class goes beyond the basics, delving into the mysteries of deity, archetype, and embodied ritual. Over six weeks, students will meet and work with deities and archetypes such as Artemis the Huntress, Freyja the Lover, Hekate the Witch, and Kali the Dark Goddess, learning to embody their powers through story and ritual. The course will deepen elemental magick by balancing Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit through altar work, invocation, and somatic practices. Participants will explore ancestral reverence, shadow work, and intuition, guided by Jungian and archetypal psychology, and will learn advanced divination techniques including candle magick, tarot, and oracle spreads, as well as how to craft incense and oils for ritual use. The Witch’s body will be reimagined as altar, vessel, and divinatory tool through movement, breathwork, and trance. Each session blends lecture, ritual, movement, and creative practice, culminating in group ceremonies and mythic storytelling.
Students need not have taken previous course, but should come to class with a basic understanding of the Craft, specifically casting circles, calling quarters, and the moral compass (although this will also be reviewed).
Dr. Selena Madden is a mythologist, educator, and ritualist whose work bridges movement, myth, and depth psychology. With reverence for ancient wisdom and symbolic ritual, Selena facilitates journeys inviting participants to embody archetypal energies, rediscover their inner landscape, and reclaim the luminous threads of their own mythic stories.
