We live and we die, but our root—and our support system—reach farther than this time and place in which we live here and now.
In this course, shamanic practitioner and death midwife Lisa Cox will guide participants in exploring shamanic practices that transcend ordinary reality, offering pathways to wisdom, healing, and growth—both personal and communal. Through illustrated talks, weekly shamanic journeys, and optional readings, we will trace the historical and methodological foundations of shamanism, discovering how these traditions can enrich contemporary life.
Our work together will center on experiencing new ways of being and perceiving. You’ll acquire practical shamanic tools for everyday use, learning how to connect with non-ordinary reality, consult ancestors, and commune with compassionate spirits and teachers. These skills support personal healing and empower you to bring transformative healing to your community.
Shamanism serves as a divinatory and healing practice, helping us seek answers and resources that we can integrate into our daily lives and communal relationships. By weaving together ancient wisdom and modern experience, we open new possibilities for personal renewal and collective well-being.
No prior shamanic experience is necessary, but this is a highly participatory class experience, so all participants are asked to bring a sense of openness, curiosity and willingness to engage.
Students will be requested to bring an eye cover (such as a bandana or scarf) and a journal and writing utensils.
Lisa Cox is a shamanic practitioner and Wyoming's Death Midwife. A long-time teacher and historian, she trained in core shamanism through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies Advanced Healing Program and the Foundation for Shamanic Studies- Europe 3 Year Program in Advanced Initiations. Lisa provides holistic care for people and pets.
