From the beginning of human history, humans have expressed themselves through create practices: art, music, story, and writing. We have been compelled to document our experiences and attempt to capture the complex terrain of the psyche, at times consumed with a desire to create. But does creative inspiration come from within, or without? What ignites the creative spark, and why are we at times prolific in our expression and other times blocked?
This series proposes that through connection with the deepest aspects of Self, one can access wisdom and inspiration that is both personal and beyond the personality. In order to awaken this inner muse, we must navigate the terrain of the subtle body to activate the flow state. Individual life experiences directly influence the subtle body, either enhancing inspiration or hindering expression — but it is also possible to consciously support the subtle body towards flow.
Using Yoga Nidra — a meditative technique based in Tantra for moving awareness through layers of the being — each session will guide participants to tune the subtle body, releasing emotional tension or creative blocks, and enhancing connection to a source of inspiration. Each week will present a unique Yoga Nidra practice to support creativity.
The first meeting will include time to formulate an intention for the series, which will be amplified in the Yoga Nidra practices. There will be time after each practice to share experiences and questions, and to begin a creative process if desired. Suggestions will be provided for those who wish to expand this series into a Sādhanā (dedicated spiritual practice) for creativity.
Mikella Millen, LCAT, ATR-BC is a licensed Art Psychotherapist, Reiki Master Teacher, Yoga Nidra Teacher, and Tantric Meditation Teacher. She has specialized in treating trauma and grief since 2009, and developed a unique approach to psychotherapy that incorporates Reiki and meditative techniques into clinical practice.
