Since ancient times, psychedelic substances have been an important part of human culture, religion, healing and magic. In these two workshops, Julian Vayne will lead us on a long, strange trip from mushrooms in ancient rock paintings to the cutting edge of the contemporary renaissance in psychedelic science. Participants will learn about the history and culture of psychedelic use, the complex emerging cultures of psychedelic pilgrimage/tourism, microdosing for wellbeing and productivity, as well as licensed research and underground therapeutic settings. Participants will also learn practical techniques to prepare for psychedelic experiences and navigation techniques to use during the journey itself.

Class 1 – Psychedelics in Context

• A Brief History of Getting Higher – an overview of the use of psychedelics across time and culture, from prehistory to today.

• Understanding the psychedelic experience – exploring the multitude of ways that indigenous and western culture have regarded and understood psychedelic experience.

• The action of the psychedelic substances from pharmacological, neurological, psychological and spiritual perspectives.

• The psychedelic scene today – an overview of the groups and style of contemporary psychedelic use.

• Emerging fields within psychedelic medicine – psychotherapeutic approaches, somatic methods and more.

• Q & A

Class 2 – Psychedelics in Practice

• Finding the psychedelic setting that works for you.

• Meditation, bodywork and interoception practices to prepare you for psychedelic experience.

• Setting intentions and cultivating curiosity.

• Breathing, attention/meditation and body techniques to support psychonauts during a psychedelic journey.

• Health and safety in the psychedelic space.

• Q & A session.

Julian Vayne is a British independent scholar and author with over four decades of experience within esoteric culture: from Druidry to Chaos Magic, from indigenous Shamanism through to Freemasonry and Witchcraft. Growing up in the Britain of punk and then rave culture Julian immersed himself in the philosophy and techniques of magic. His journey into group ritual practice began within the Western Esoteric Tradition when he was 16. Since then he has worked in ceremony with practitioners from many different lands and lineages. Julian has used the Thoth Tarot in his practice for over 40 years, is a senior member of the Magical Pact of the Illuminates of Thanateros, and is widely recognized as one of Britain’s leading occultists.
