This small mid century ceramic measures approximately 5.5x 4.5"

This is a death mask allegedly based on young suicide pulled from the Seine in the 1880s. Her body, the story goes, was put on display at the the infamous Paris morgue where a pathologist, captivated by her beauty, took a cast of her face. Later, a generation of bohemians--including Camus, Man Ray, Nabokov, and William Gaddis--hung copies of this morbid curio in their homes.
