Nearly three years ago, collector J.D. Powe, curator of the Morbid Anatomy Museum's final exhibition, Taxidermy: Art, Science & Immortality, established a unique live taxidermy auction. The auction, which runs live on Instagram every Sunday at 3pm, is believed to be the first weekly online event of its kind. With curated offerings designed to appeal both to novice and advanced collectors, the auction has garnered a reputation both for its playful onscreen banter and consistent ability to source rare and unusual specimens.

On Sunday, July 25th, Morbid Anatomy will team up with @taxidermyauction in a special fundraiser event to benefit our new physical location in Industry City. As co-hosts of the auction, we will be offering a curated selection of items from the Morbid Anatomy archives, including books, ephemera, and other objects of intrigue, and these offerings will be supplemented by a stunning array of antique and modern taxidermy examples that participants will be able to purchase directly via the live stream bidding.

To take part—or just enjoy the show!— simply go to @taxidermyauction on Instagram on Sunday, July 25 at 3:00pm. Bids are placed in the comment section, and payments can be made via PayPal and Venmo.

Technology entrepreneur JD Powe has retained a fascination with natural history over his 25 year career in business. A passionate collector of rare and antique taxidermy, Powe has assembled one of the world's elite private collections of unique and historically important specimens. The extensive collection includes examples from a wide range of taxidermy genres, including Victorian anthropomorphic tableaus in the style of Walter Potter, zoomorphic functional objects, and hundreds of extinct and bizarre specimens from passenger pigeons and Carolina parakeets to aardvarks, wombats and binturongs. Powe has loaned specimens to support educational programming and public exhibits at the Morbid Anatomy Museum, and currently, to the Curious Creatures exhibit at the Adirondack Experience in Blue Mountain Lake, New York. His first taxidermy-themed book is Best Friends Forever: The World's Greatest Collection of Taxidermy Dogs.
