Santo Niño Doctor Devotional Statue

$13.00

Charming devotional statuette of Santo Niño Doctor, a popular Mexican folk saint. He is depicted as a spritely child with a golden halo, dressed in medical gear with a stethoscope around his neck, medical-tool bag at his feet, and seated in a gold chair.

Santo Niño Doctor traces back to a Niño Dios (holy infant) statue whom a nun dressed as a doctor and put on display a hospital, where he quickly became a renowned miracle worker. He is prayed to by those in ill-health, and is believed to assist with divine healing.

Niño Dios (holy infant figures) is celebrated with pageantry on Christmas Eve (December 24th) and Candlemas (Feb 2nd). The child is “put to bed” in a ceremony on December 24th, where he is carried, sang to, and laid in a manger where he remains until Candlemas. On February 2nd the figure is brought to Mass, is given new clothing, and blessed.

Mexican Import.

Hand painted in bold color, molded plastic, about 3.5” tall
